Willow Fire & Security attended a residential block of flats in Esher, Surrey to replace a faulty emergency light identified during inspection. The existing fitting was not operating correctly and no longer provided reliable emergency illumination.

The defective unit was removed and replaced with a new compliant emergency light, ensuring adequate illumination of the escape route in the event of a power failure. The replacement fitting was tested to confirm correct operation on both mains and emergency supply.

Regular testing and timely replacement of faulty emergency lights are essential to ensure safe evacuation during a power failure or fire. Emergency lighting is designed to illuminate escape routes when normal lighting fails, and units that do not operate correctly can leave corridors, stairwells, and exits in darkness, increasing the risk of injury and panic.

Routine testing and prompt replacement of defective fittings help maintain compliance with BS 5266, ensure escape routes remain clearly visible, and protect the safety of residents and building occupants in an emergency.

The emergency lighting system is now fully operational, compliant, and providing safe illumination for residents.
