Willow Fire & Security’s monthly fire alarm maintenance check was carried out at a three-storey block of flats in Croydon as part of the building’s
ongoing fire safety and compliance programme. The visit was scheduled to ensure the communal fire alarm system remained fully operational, compliant with current standards, and fit for purpose for residents across all three floors.
The fire alarm control panel was visually inspected on arrival, confirming normal operation with no active faults, warnings, or disabled zones present. Power supplies were checked to verify correct operation of both the mains supply and standby batteries. Manual call points were tested on a rotational basis, ensuring correct activation, clear indication at the control panel, and successful system reset following testing. Audible alarm devices were also checked throughout the communal areas, including stairwells and shared corridors, to confirm sound levels were clearly audible on each floor.
All zones serving the building were reviewed to ensure accurate labelling and correct operation, providing confidence that any future activation would be correctly identified. The system responded as expected during testing, and no defects or remedial actions were identified during the visit. The fire alarm logbook was updated accordingly to confirm the inspection had been completed in line with BS 5839-1 recommendations.
Regular monthly fire alarm maintenance in blocks of flats plays a vital role in protecting residents, reducing the risk of system failure, and meeting the legal responsibilities placed on managing agents and duty holders. This visit confirmed that the fire alarm system was being properly maintained and continued to provide reliable early warning coverage across all three floors of the building.
